Granby Municipal Court

The town of Granby municipal court handles traffic, parking, animal and other municipal code violations. Many of the charges are payable prior to court. The court clerk is available to accept payment of fines or answer questions during normal business hours. The court clerk is not allowed to give legal advice, please seek legal advice from an attorney.

Municipal court is held on the third Thursday of every month at 10:30 a.m. in the board room of the Granby town hall.

The town of Granby municipal court is a court of record. Court proceedings are governed by state statutes, court rules, and the ordinances of the town of Granby.

WHAT TO WEAR:

Dress comfortably but not too informal – Halter tops, gang-related clothing, drug-related clothing, clothing with sexually explicit graphics, beachwear, sleepwear or excessively revealing clothing are not appropriate attire for court appearances. Hats are to be removed prior to entering the courtroom, unless worn for religious purposes. The Court reserves the right to refuse entry into the Courtroom.

The Granby Municipal Court is open. Those who have received a summons are expected to appear in court on their scheduled date. If you are appearing in person for any Court proceeding, the following procedure will be strictly followed and enforced:

Where do I pay my citation fine?

You can mail your payment to Granby Municipal Court PO Box 440, Granby, CO 80446. You may also drop your fine off at the town hall located at Zero Jasper Ave in Granby.

The officer told me about a point reduction, how do I receive this?

To receive the automatic point reduction the payment must be made in the 20 day period immediately following the date of issue. If you are mailing your fine, the payment must be postmarked within the 20 days. If you are bringing payment to the town hall, it must be done within the 20 day period.

Do I have to appear in court?

If the citation you received says "Summons" on it, then you are required to appear in court and have your fines assessed by the Judge.
If a fine amount is written on the citation then you do not have to appear in court as long as you pay the fine and surcharge amount by the court date on your ticket. A court date is provided on fine assessments in case you choose to appear in court. The fine and surcharge amount written on your citation plus additional court costs will be added and due on the court date if you choose to appear. You must do one or the other.

I live out of state, do I have to appear in person?

If your citation says "Summons" you are required to appear in person. You may contact an attorney and have them represent you in court if you are unable to appear in person.

My child has a court appearance, does an adult need to accompany them?

Yes. A parent or legal guardian must accompany any minors under the age of 18.

Can I change my court date?

Yes. You must contact the courts at least 24 hours before your scheduled court date. Once you have notified the clerk, they will have you fill out a court date change request, granting you a one month extension.
